I hope that everyone had a wonderful New Years, and cleaned up all the confetti left after the party. Looking into 2009, it’s shaping up to be a great year for Halo fans. We have Halo Wars to look forward to, along with Halo 3: ODST.
Before looking forward into 2009, let’s look at something that was impressive for Halo 3 in 2008. For the entire year of 2008, Halo 3 was the most played game. There were times that Halo 3 was passed over during a given week. Yet, it wouldn’t be long before it would inevitably take over the #1 spot. That consistency has led to it being the #1 played game on Xbox Live for the year.
Needless to say it’s going to be tough to keep that title going into 2009. There’s plenty of popular games coming out, not to mention that there’s two games set in the Halo universe seeing a release on the Xbox 360. It will be interesting to see the stats at the end of this year. I’ll be impressed if Halo 3 stays in the Top 3 played Xbox Live games.

Here are some tips that might help you in outbring your opponent. I had trouble getting used to the battle rifle in halo 2 but on halo 3 it is much easier to compete with since there aren’t double shooting glitches or bxr’s. These are some tips that i have learned.
- You don’t have to hit head shots the first three shots you take, as long as the fourth hits the head you get the kill. So if a target is jumping and bumping just take three body shots while moving your reticle up for the head shot on the fourth
- While in a firefight with an opponent use strafing, jumping and crouching to your advantage. If the target is across map or close to it use a mixture of short and long strafes to out smart him. Crouching and jumping isn’t effective until the BR is used in med to short range attacks. The best time to jump or use the less expected crouch is when you are “one shot” (or when your shields are down.)
- Don’t chase every “one shot” or everyone that you damage. A ton of chasing has been going on in Halo 3 as I’ve noticed in online play. It is easy to get down to one shot and duck around a corner, drop a grenade and one shot your opponent so chasing is not a good idea unless you know without a doubt that your opponent doesn’t have a power weapon or is out of grenades. I have racked up kills like this especially in lone wolves.
- Cross-Firing is always a good idea in team br games. If you and your team set up to where you can easily double or triple br, you have an edge over your opponent. Your team should play a lot of custom games to practice setting up and find out what positions work for each person based on their style of play on each map so that you can easily out br the opposing team.
- One of the most basic BR skills is the one-shot. If you see an opponent who doesn’t know you are there toss a grenade at his feet and take one shot to the head and you have an easy kill.
- Another basic yet often useful tactic is to beat down then one-shot. This should be used when your opponent is very close and only if they are using a BR. If they are using an AR I would not recommend using this because of the easy burst and beat down they can counter you with and most likely they will win that battle every time.
- The crouch jump while using a BR has saved my butt in tons of situations. If the opponent is out BRing you, you can even the odds by jumping and repeatedly hitting crouch while in the air and taking as many shots at the opponent as you can. It takes a lot of practice but once you get it down you can become a great BR gunner.

Like most people, I was pretty curious to know the definite list of what maps and game types were served by Bungie for the different playlists. We all know now that they don’t give us ‘Hammerzeit’ on Big Team Battles, or ‘Team Hammmers’ on Social Slayer.
So, after many hours of testing by me and my housemates, and plenty of checking of other peoples gamertags (last games played and what they played) I’ve come up with this list. Please feel free to point out any corrections in the comments.
