The M6 Spartan Laser Review

By Master Chief

The M6 Spartan Laser is new to Halo 3, and offers a much needed boost to the heavy weaponry. However, it’s destructive power is not easy to handle! There are some major drawbacks to the awesome power that this beast is capable of.

M6 Spartan Laser Halo 3

Here are a few from my own personal experience:

  • It only gives 5 shots, which can be really frustrating but it balances quite fair. Allow for the fact that with 2 of those kills your gonna be attacking vehicles (more later) there’s plenty of ammo to rack up kills.
  • It needs to charge up before firing, which means you need to hold down the right trigger and then keep your target in your sights (or let him run into your cross-hairs!) until it fires (about 3 seconds). The cross hair turns red when you have a good aim.
  • When charging, the laser sends out a small red laser beam, like the laser sight on a real machine gun (Think SAS…). This serves as a warning for potential victims to get the hell out of there!
  • The spartan laser is very heavy, and as a consequence your movement rate is significantly reduced. A good tip is to switch to a regular weapon while moving between vantage points, and then switch back to the laser when your in position.

Now, these seem like significant drawbacks, but now lets analyse the strengths of this weapon!

  • It can kill almost anything in 1 shot (Scorpion and Wraith tanks need 2) apart from the Elephant Desert Vehicle (Sandtrap, Big Team Battle)
  • Halo 3 is quite forgiving on the aim, at long range you don’t need to be ’spot on’ and it will give you the kill.
  • On maps like Sandtrap, with plenty of Warthogs and plenty of people, its an easy way to 5 x Triple Kill Medals (you also get a Laserkill medal!)
  • On some of the maps with Banshees too, (Valhalla, Sandtrap) it offers an alternative to the rockets for dispensing those pesky flying menaces!
  • Because of it’s huge size, it does more damage in a beat down!
  • It has unlimited firing range (same as sniper) and it has a fairly ok 2x zoom.

In order to kill someone who is using a Spartan Laser, use similar tactics as you would for a Sniper. They are 90% likely to be zoomed in, which means they have a restricted view. So come in on the flank (or rear) and get an assassination. I don’t advise trying to attack them face on as, in my experience, it usually results in getting a hole burnt through your face!
