November Matchmaking

Master Chief

The beginning of every new month brings about some changed in Halo 3. Sometimes it’s big, and sometimes it isn’t. Then again most of the time, the size of the change is all dependent on the individual.

Either way, here are some of the changes you can expect to see in the month of November for matchmaking.

General Matchmaking - Instances of September update maps (Boundless, Pit Stop, Sand Tarp and Epilogue) and their default counterparts are shuffled around and removed in some instances to remove some of the redundancies.

Social -Social Slayer – Team Snipers and Team Shotty Snipers removed.

Ranked

Team Slayer – Team Snipers and Team Shotty Snipers removed.

Team Objective – Weighting for Multi Flag BR’s increased.

Team Doubles – Anvil removed. The Pit replaced by Pit Stop in all variants.

Squad Battle – Weighting on Heavy Sandtrap and Heavy Valhalla slightly reduced. Heavy Standoff removed.

DLC

DLC FFA – Haunted Manor replaced with Infected Manor.

Hardcore

Added Team Snipers – Ranked 4v4 playlist. Sniper Rifle spawns (no secondary weapons) on maps forged with Beam Rifles. Shotty Snipers present with a lower weighting.

Double EXP Weekends (Listed in order)

Team Flag (Formerly known as 4th of July)

Grifball

Legendary Brawl

Turkey Day*

7 on the 7th

November’s 7 on the 7th will feature FFA gametypes on Blackout.

*Turkey Day

Four days of tenuously Thanksgiving-themed FFA gametypes for 9 players

Wishbone Brawl: Score points by beating down other players with the oddball. 10 points to win.

Black Friday: More slugs than hugs. Players spawn with Plasma Pistols and score points by beating down or assassinating other players. 25 points to win.

Turkey Carvers: Those turkeys won’t slice themselves. Team Swords, point leader moves slowly (‘cause he ate too much). 25 points to win.

Turkey Fiesta: It’s a party! Random primary and secondary weapons. Point leader is fat and slow, but we still love him. 25 points to win.

Tryptophan: The day the turkeys… Returned. Infection. Turkeys move quickly. Last Pilgrim Standing can run pretty fast. Most kills after 4 rounds wins.

Bungie Site Updates

Master Chief

For those who like to frequent Bungie.net for Halo updates, you should know the site itself is changing. Bungie has announced changes specifically to the File Sharing section. Here are a few key updates to look out for, and what those changes are.

Tagging - I was surprised that this feature wasn’t already part of the File Share section. Just like tagging on anyother site, any file can have a tag added to it either by the creator, or others. Once it’s added, the relevancy can be increased to show up better for search results

File Sets - This feature allows for “grouping” of files based on certain categories. It helps in streamlining the search process, and also maybe finding resources you wouldn’t know about originally.

Ratings - The ratings system has changed, and is now going by a 1-10 system instead of the 1-5 system. They’re all pretty arbitrary numbers, but atleast it would give a larger range to sort through.

Bungie’s Next Halo 3 Project

Master Chief

The past couple of weeks, Halo fans have been on edge trying to decipher what Bungie’s next project could be. People dissected the code that Bungie released in their teaser trailer. I was actually kind of sad to see the things people found, and how long it must have taken to look through it all.

Well Bungie isn’t too cruel, and has now announced what their upcoming title actually is. Halo 3: Recon is what the was the inspiration behind the initial teaser trailer. The information was dropped in yet another trailer, that expanded on the original. If for some reason you haven’t seen it, here’s a link.

There have been a few pieces of news dropped about the game. First, Master Chief will in no way make his presence known in Halo 3: Recon. In fact this game takes place right after Halo 2, so Master Chief is off somewhere doing his own thing. Second, Halo 3: Recon will allow gamers to complete the single player campaign with up to four players at a time Co-Op. And finally what I find most exciting/dangerous, is that the game will play unlike the Halo games before it. In an interview with Gamespot, Brian Jarrard explained that the protagonist in Recon isn’t a Spartan super soldier. Therefore you’ll have to play through the game much differently than Master Chief did in the previous Halo games.

As of now Halo 3: Recon is slated to released Q4 2009.

Bungie File Sharing Updated

Master Chief

With the teaser trailers that have been released, and the Title Update, it has been a busy month for Halo fans. To top this all off, Bungie has made a couple of smaller announcements this past week. You shouldn’t over look these, as there’s alot to appreciate.

Bungie has improved their website recently, mostly dealing with the file sharing aspect of their site. The first update is the layout of the file share page. It has been revamped to give players a much more streamlined experience. It’s easier to find valid content, as well as post your own.

One of the cooler extras that Bungie is making available is their new “Bungie Card”. This is a neat way to show off your love for everything Halo. It basically works much like you see Xbox gamertags popping up on forums. On the card will be your name, a background, an avatar, and how long you’ve been a member. You’ll then be able to take the card and show it off in various formats.
